Acknowledging 20 years of rural generalism in Queensland.

2025 will mark 20 years since a group of passionate rural health clinicians and advocates convened in Roma to conceptualise a dedicated rural training pathway and improve rural medical recruitment, training and support across Queensland.

The seminal meeting in September 2005 of rural doctors, Queensland Health, GP colleges, educational providers, Rural Doctors Association of Queensland, Health Workforce Queensland and other stakeholders led to the so-called Roma Agreement and its goal to ‘develop and sustain an integrated service and training program to form a career pathway supplying the Rural Generalist workforce that the bush needs’.  The Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway commenced operating and welcomed its inaugural training cohort just two years later, in 2007.

Join us on 25 and 26 September 2025 to reflect on the journey from the Roma Agreement to now and consider what is next for rural generalist medicine in Queensland.

Join our mailing list for event updates and keep an eye out for an opportunity to have input into development of the two day program.
